Job Description :

An established farming company with operations in Zambia requires an experienced and qualified Section Manager.

The farm is mainly irrigated (center pivot) with some area of "dry-land" crops. Current cropping program includes Maize and Soya with Wheat and Potatoes.

The farm has up to 200 staff employed as well as additional seasonal labour. The Section Manager will be responsible for the performance of the section and as such must be highly skilled in all aspects of managing and running a farming business unit.


  • Coordinate all production planning, field operational programmes and conservation practises.
  • Take direct responsibility for replant programme, field layouts and planting operations.
  • Irrigation planning and scheduling for the crops in the section.
  • Control pest and disease programme as planned.
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance and repairs on farm machinery, tractors, irrigation and buildings is carried out according to company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all record keeping and admin is updated as required e.g. Fertilisation, Herbicide Applications, Harvesting Operations - Weekly and Monthly Deliveries, Irrigation, Pest and Disease control, Harvest results etc.
  • Advise and assist with the completion of budgets.
  • Manage staff in the section according to company poilicy and proceedures.

Requirements: Relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture. At least 5 years ‘hands-on’ experience in large scale commercial crop farming operations with a focus on irrigated grain production.

A record of achievement as a “self-starter” with a focus on effective farm operations planning, time management and decision-making. Computer literate with the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software and other tools for reporting purposes. Effective leader and team player receptive to feedback and willing to learn new things and share knowledge and skills; embracing continuous improvement.

Salary Details:

US$3,500pm + house, work vehicle and medical cover.
